Midnight 12.1 Off-Season

The WoW Off-Season is the first week after a new patch goes live, before the next season officially starts. At this time, players can already explore some of the new content, but important endgame activities like raids, Arenas, and Mythic+ are still unavailable.
In this guide, we cover the most useful things you can do during the first week of Patch 12.1. Completing these activities will help you use the Off-Season wisely and prepare your character for the launch of Midnight Season 2.
Main Patch 12.1 Campaign

The first part of the Curse of Ula’Tek campaign was released with Patch 12.0.7. Patch 12.1 continues the story by adding new quests focused on Zul’Aman and Atal’Utek. The complete campaign is divided into six questlines:
- Legacy of the Amani
- Ghosts of the Past
- The Battle for Atal’Utek
- An Island of Fangs
- Original Sin
- The Call of the Void
During the first week after Patch 12.1 launches, you can continue working through the campaign and complete the available quests. However, the full story cannot be finished during the Off-Season. The last parts of the campaign require you to defeat The Venomous Abyss raid on any difficulty. Since the raid becomes available with Midnight Season 2, you will have to wait for the new season to complete the entire campaign.
Off-Season PvE Activities
Your PvE choices will be limited during the Off-Season. You will be able to run Delves up to Tier 3, as well as Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons. Delves and Heroic dungeons can be completed as many times as you want, while Mythic 0 dungeons have a weekly loot lockout. The table below shows the item levels you can get from each activity during the first week of Patch 12.1.
| Instances | Completion Rewards | The Great Vault Rewards |
| Tier 1 Delves | 266 Adventurer 1/6 | 279 Veteran 1/6 |
| Tier 2 Delves | 270 Adventurer 2/6 | 283 Veteran 2/6 |
| Tier 3 Delves | 273 Adventurer 3/6 | 286 Veteran 3/6 |
| Heroic Dungeons | 276 Adventurer 4/6 | 289 Veteran 4/6 |
| Mythic 0 Dungeons | 292 Champion 1/6 | 302 Champion 4/6 |
If you did not actively raid during Midnight Season 1, the Off-Season is a good time to catch up. Running Delves and dungeons will help you upgrade your gear, improve your character, and get ready for the launch of Midnight Season 2.
Tidebound Grotto World Mode

The Midnight Season 2 Lair will be accessible during the first week of Patch 12.1, but only on the lowest World difficulty. Defeating Nymrissa Wavecaller in this mode can reward you with gear up to item level 279 (Veteran 1/6). At the same time, the Great Vault guarantees a 292 ilvl (Champion 1/6) reward.
These rewards are better than many of the other gear options available during the Off-Season. For this reason, we highly recommend completing Tidebound Grotto on World difficulty during the first week. It is a good way to improve your gear and get the most from the available gearing options.
Vaults of Atal’Utek

Vaults of Atal’Utek is a new underground zone with different activities, rewards, and power-ups to collect. One of its most useful features is the Corrosive Codex, which gives you talents that work in both the open world and Delves. Unlocking these talents during the first week can make Delve farming easier and help you progress faster.

Zul’jarra’s Forces and Captain Tokka Factions

Patch 12.1 gives you access to two new factions from the first week: Zul’jarra’s Forces and Captain Tokka. Gaining their reputation will unlock collectible rewards, useful items, and other benefits.
One of the most valuable rewards comes from reaching Renown Level 8 with Zul’jarra’s Forces. At this level, defeated Curse Surge bosses can drop Warbound Veteran gear, which makes gearing your alts much easier.
Captain Tokka’s reputation can be increased by taking part in Curse Surges. This faction offers many collectibles, crafting recipes, and useful fishing gear, so it is a good choice to work on during the Off-Season.
Last Chance for Guaranteed Ashes of Belo’ren mount

The guaranteed drop for the Ashes of Belo’ren mount from the March on Quel’Danas raid will be available until the start of Midnight Season 2. If you still do not have this mount, the Off-Season is your last chance to get it with the current drop rate.
Starting on August 18, the drop rate for Ashes of Belo’ren will be lowered to 1%, making it much harder and more time-consuming to obtain. If you want to add this unique mount to your collection before the change, you can join an experienced guild or use a boosting service to make the process faster and easier.
